When I talk to my friends and family about my new way of eating, they usually say something about how they just don't think they could ever give up their favorite foods. I totally know what they mean. I was extremely hesitant to give up my beloved cheeses and chocolates, but I knew that those were the foods that I was most likely to over indulge in, and the foods that were the most fattening in my diet. So, I gave them up. But it didn't take long for me to realize that there are veganized versions of
everything. Most things taste nearly identical or, in my opinion, better. I'm still not in love with soy milk, but most of the uncheeses, veggie meats, and dairy-free chocolates I've tried are just amazing.
Case in point:
Back to Nature's Classic Creme Cookies. I would testify to the Supreme Court that these things are better than Oreo's. Better. They have the exact same flavor as the conventional version, but the cookie is a little crisper and the "creme" is a little softer. I brought some home today and B. and I tried them out. He ate his with his wonderful
Snowville Creamery milk and I with my organic soy milk. They got the B. stamp of approval and he even stuck them up on the highest shelf in the kitchen so I can't get them down and scarf them all without him.

I remember when I thought vegan food was gonna be boring. My first vegan cookbook was Vegan With a Vengeance, and I was converted. You will find so many delicious things out there (and a few missteps, of course) that will knock your socks off. Promise.
ReplyDeleteMy area has very good shopping. I am continuously amazed at all of the alternative brands of Oreos. I agree with you, some of them are better than the original. The ingredients for Oreos ( & many processed foods ) often shifts. Oreos periodically become vegan
ReplyDeleteI think real oreos are vegan right now.
ReplyDeleteThe raw sugar taste in these back to nature cookies is way better though. A little addictive.
Oreo's ARE vegan right now-- but have you tried Newman's O's? Those are really amazing. I use them as my "oreo" cookie crust in a mocha chocolate cheesecake. Cheesecake was my favorite, but luckily BY FAR one of the best veganizations. It's the same, if not better.
ReplyDeleteBUT if you're point was to stay away from that stuff, maybe telling you all this is a bad idea. :)
I hear good things about Newman O's, but I haven't tried them yet. Next time! (Which should be a while because I ate like a piggy this weekend!)
